Ask a Tarot Reader: Short Answer Edition

question-mark-1105892_640

You’ve got questions; I’ve got answers.

❓: How long have you been doing this for?

💬: Since sixteen years old (I’m turning 35 this year). Professionally, I started in 2005, so this will be my eleventh year of business!

❓: Can you just pull a few cards for me quickly?

💬: No.

❓: Are you sure you don’t have your cards with you?

💬: Yes, I’m sure.

❓: Why don’t you do “emergency” readings or same-day appointments?

💬: My time is very important to me, and your time is important to me, too. When I schedule someone, I am not only carving out the time it takes to do their reading, but the time it takes for me to prepare for a reading, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I want to be in tip-top shape as a reader for you to have the best reading with me possible.

In short, do you do your best work when you’re hurried? Neither do I.

❓: Are you a psychic?

💬: No more so than anyone else is capable of. I believe everyone has intuitive gifts and some people have a natural talent for such things, much like having a musical talent or being gifted in a sport. But I also believe that intuition is a muscle that can be built with time and practice.

❓: What was your first tarot deck?

💬: The Tarot Nova deck by Running Press [in their Fortune-Telling Kit]. See this post for how I started: Why the Tarot Nova Made Me a Better Reader…

❓: Are you any good at gambling?

💬: Not really, actually. And the one time I did have an intuitive hit during gambling (a rarity), I had to be escorted away from the blackjack table. If I had a psychic hotline for the lotto numbers, do you think I’d be charging for my readings? Sadly, psychic gifts don’t work that way!

❓: What are your vices?

💬: Candy Crush Soda Saga (and now Jelly Saga…), Songpop 2, Bejeweled Blitz, Pinterest, Instagram, reading too many books at the same time, Johnnie Walker Black, blaming my astrological sign for my bad temper (Aries, man), procrastination, Lip Sync Battle, Outlander, Black Sails, Game of Thrones, Marvy LePens, stationery and nice writing implements, the smell of new tarot decks (it’s the reason why I have so many!), sparkly crystals, spiritual jewelry that makes me swoon, stockpiling makeup as if I was a professional makeup artist (I’m not), bad movies (as in critically panned, like Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit and Masterminds… but damned if I watch it if it comes on TV every. single. time.), an absurd need to fight other people’s battles for them (I’m working on it), LUSH, bubble baths (sadly, the apartment I moved into has a walk-in shower so no more of THAT particular indulgence), and an interest in learning different divinatory systems that borders on obsession.

❓: Do you watch TV? Any shows in particular, and which?

💬: See above question on vices: I’ve already listed some of them, such as Lip Sync Battle (which I occasionally catch), and Outlander, Game of Thrones, and Agent Carter are “must watch live” shows for me. Black Sails I am a little behind on (a few episodes, at most), and The Blacklist I am way, way, WAY more behind than I’d like: almost the entire current season, so no spoilers, please. I’m particularly delighted that I got my husband to binge-watch Outlander for seven episodes recently! I consider this a huge accomplishment.

❓: Any specific type of music you enjoy?

💬: I’m open to any musical genre except for country. Country music is like nails on a chalkboard for me! I have a particular fondness for 80s and 90s R&B, much to hubby’s amusement and dismay.

❓: What are you working on right now?

💬: Right now I am mentoring the mighty fine young tarot minds at the Tarot Brainery with my tarot homegirl and mentor forever Theresa Reed (The Tarot Lady), and serving my clients through the tarot via in-person, phone, and email readings.

Blessings,
~*~Hilary~*~
