The Queen of Procrastination

I wish I could say that there is a good reason that i haven’t blogged since the latest installment of the Major Arcana In-Depth series covering the Wheel of Fortune.

There isn’t.

Apparently I am really fantastic at that subtle art of procrastination. I’ve found that most writers have it. The ability to do basically everything else besides the actual work they should be doing.

I read the book Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn in roughly 3 days total. I immediately downloaded to my Kindle Aliza Einhorn’s The Little Book of Saturn after a twitter conversation with her. I played fashion show with my latest clothing picks from Stitch Fix [referral link if you’d like to become similarly obsessed]. I tried out new makeup looks found on Pinterest. I watched Captain America: Civil War and proceeded to read all of the trivia about the movie on Internet Movie Database (I am just a well of useless movie trivia).

In short? I’ve done basically everything I could do besides writing or blogging. And while you could say that reading a few books, shopping for new clothes, or catching up on movies that I wanted to see is productive (and I wouldn’t necessarily say that I disagree with you), it’s not exactly the kind of productivity I was personally looking for.

Business productivity is what I was really looking for. And now I’m getting back to that.

Most of my bad habits are focused around the main bad habit I have of procrastination. It’s well documented here on the blog.

Maybe it’s been the energy in the stars [astrology] or maybe it’s been the energy in the cards [tarot] that I’ve been pulling daily. And honestly, a lot of people have been feeling it too: that feeling of overwhelm. That feeling of if I can’t do everything, I’ll do nothing.

It’s no way to live.

This hasn’t been the first time this bout of procrastination has happened. But when it does happen and I’m struggling to find a source (besides laziness or ennui), I turn to the cards to ask what the source is. Literally. I asked the cards as I shuffled: What is the source of this recent bout of procrastination? Here’s what I pulled:

5 of Wands reversed: in some decks, this card represents opposition and group politics. In others, feeling passed over for a promotion or success that you ultimately thought would be yours, no questions asked. When I see the 5 of Wands, it’s a fiery energy coming at you from all sides… too much at once to properly stand against or guard against. You feel completely overwhelmed, not in the same way as the 10 of Wands where you’ve already taken on those burdens but in the sheer force of energy coming at you from all sides. You feel outgunned, outmanned, outplayed. You feel like you are not enough.

Wow, tarot, you’ve done it again. It’s often hard to break a cycle when you don’t know the root of it. That’s where tarot steps in to fill in the gaps of knowledge. Or in my case, smacks me upside the head and tells me to knock that shit off.

As my friend Sarah has previously noted, I am pretty good at giving that smack upside the head to others via my tarot readings. Check out the Testimonials page or book a reading to see for yourself.
