‘Tis the season for holiday gifting… and some of the people on my gift list are really hard to shop for! What’s a girl to do? This tarot reader turns to tarot and her intuition to find just the perfect prezzies for the special people on my list.
Here’s a great way to incorporate tarot and your own inner personal shopper to ease your shopping woes. Follow along with me if you have a tarot deck of your own.
- Start by separating out the Major Arcana and the Court cards from the Minor Arcana in your favorite tarot deck. Putting them in chronological order for the Majors and separating the court cards by suit is recommended. You’ll see why in a second.
- To ease you into this exercise, let’s start with the Court cards. Pages are sometimes associated with children or youthful energy. Let us think of any children you have on your shopping list, and let’s break it down:
Page of Pentacles: Taking age of the child into account, this would be the child that loves building blocks, Tinkertoys®, and LEGOS®. In a pinch this child would be building houses out of cards. The most appealing part about the season for this child is the sheer mounds of presents, stacked up high (see a pattern here?). The phrase “quantity over quality” (yes, I know it’s usually the other way around) comes to mind.
Page of Swords: This child would almost be content with no present at all… so lost in their own thoughts they are. Why don’t you pick them up the latest page-turner? Be sure to find one they HAVEN’T read yet (a challenge in itself, as a Page of Swords child is precocious and ahead of the curve). That or pick up a beautiful journal so they can put their many thoughts to paper.
Page of Wands: This is the thespian of the group. Wild plays, elaborate costumes, and musical numbers in the living room. Much of my childhood I was the epitome of this card (just ask my mother and sister how many times they heard me play the movie soundtrack of Grease while wearing a poodle skirt and dancing in the den). If the child is old enough and it’s in the budget, tickets to a musical wouldn’t go amiss (avoid ones like Sweeney Todd and go with light-hearted fare that inspires). If tickets to a musical are out of the question, then buying them a set of musical movies is a good second option (helloooo, Mary Poppins!)
Page of Cups: This child (bless their little heart) loves giving gifts better than getting. However, this one is more emotionally sensitive than the rest of the pages, so if you mess up the gift, this child might think Santa’s not real. No pressure or anything! 😉 This gift takes more groundwork. It requires listening to the subtle (and not so subtle) hints that are being dropped. And trust me, they are being dropped! As long as the Page of Cups child knows they are being truly heard, they will be happy with their gift. And if you are not ready for a kitty or puppy in the house, don’t get one as a present.
Now that the kiddies are out of the way (and let’s face, that is the audience with the highest standard), on to the adults in your life. But that shall have to wait for Part 2…
Best holiday wishes!
