“I know what I need to do. I just don’t want to do it.”
My client’s voice echoed on the other end of the line. It’s a familiar line, and while I don’t want to sound cavalier… I’ve heard it before. Many, many times, often after I complete a tarot reading with someone. Most people are not willing to admit that fact before the reading, but it all comes up after in light of the cards.
That’s the downside to empowering readings. You are often stuck with not indecision, but finding the courage to do what you know you need to do. Often it’s something that you’ve known you needed to do for YEARS, and the courage or determination to do exactly that is lacking. But still… it ain’t about getting clarity: it boils down to doing or making the choices that you don’t want to.
A tarot reading isn’t about the information that comes up during the reading, but what you will DO with that information. Stay? Go? Take the job? Make the leap? Fire that employee? Move in with that guy? The tarot can’t answer those questions, but you can.
What is it about doing what you need to do? Because this is a phrase that echoes throughout many of my client’s readings: I know what I need to do, I just don’t want to do it. Or a variant of that “I don’t know what I should do in this situation.” but by at least the middle if not the end of the reading it all becomes very clear that that’s bullshit. You know exactly what you need to do.
It all becomes clear because the tarot just doesn’t lie. It doesn’t know how to. We’re pretty good at lying to ourselves though. But that lens of cards spread out on the table, telling us our lives… it’s hard to be in denial after that. It really is.
After a while you realize that the comfort of the uncomfortable situation becomes more unbearable with every passing day and you are ready for a change, no matter how scary that change seems to be. You are finally ready to get out of the rut that you’ve been it, you are ready to see different results. And you realize that doing the same thing over and over will always result in the same thing, instead of something different. So doing something different becomes the only option.
