How Frequently Should You Get a Tarot Reading?

veniceclock

Sometimes I have clients that just can’t wait to have another tarot reading. While I love enthusiastic clients, I do have to get them to take a deep breath, calm down, and remind them that there’s work that needs to be done first.

I once had a friend of mine ask for a love reading. Less than the span of a week had passed between the first time she asked the question and when she asked again. I went ahead and did the reading… lo and behold, the same cards came up in the EXACT same positions. This was definitely not a coincidence (is there really coincidence when throwing tarot cards?) and I had never seen that happen before (or since). I’m not sure who learned their lesson that day more… me or her. Pretty sure it was me.

And what should we really expect? That the cards will change and show growth when we haven’t “done the work” yet? Hardly. Tarot is an excellent bullshit detector. Yes, having a tarot reading might be a great first step toward realizing what needs to change, but a reading won’t cause the shift to happen on its own. Only you can do that. Only you can do the work.

Every reader will have a different answer to how frequently or infrequently you should get a reading. This can vary from reader to reader, and from client to client. Be wary of a reader that will read on the same question within a few days of the initial reading.

My personal rule of thumb is that at least a month should pass between readings. This is for even the most eager of clients, because I truly want the cards to change for them upon their next reading, showing the growth and progress they have made since their initial reading. This may not be the case for all clients; some of them only need a check-in once or twice a year, and that works for them.

In the end, I am grateful for every single client that sits at my tarot table, but ultimately, the power lays within them. Find a reader that syncs up with your reading cycle, and be respectful when your reader tells you a reading may be “too soon.” Ultimately, we all want the best possible experience with the cards for you, and we all want the biggest bang for your buck as well. If the cards aren’t changing because it’s “too soon” or you haven’t been doing the work, you’re not hearing anything different when you are sitting down with us… and most readers will agree that makes for a very boring and useless reading for both client and reader!

Much love and blessings,

Absolutely agree! I often tell clients I won’t read for them on the same topic unless some time–at least two weeks but it depends on the nature of the situation–and it can be a challenge! 🙂

  2. […] I’m going to address one of those recent themes today, since I already answered the other: is it too soon to come see you for a reading again? in a previous post. The other question was, How do I cleanse myself or my home, energetically? It’s really one […]

This is a helpful article. Tarot card reading has been proven to be beneficial but we should also consult at the right time. Thanks for sharing this useful article.
