The Joker may be crazy, maniacal even, but he’s not wrong: If you’re good at something, never do it for free.
So why is the metaphysical industry absolutely plagued with deal-seekers, craving fix after fix, card after card, and all for FREE?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I think the answer comes down to VALUE.
Perceived value.
Miscommunicated value.
The cold truth is that if they didn’t put some skin in the game in the form of cash, that person is probably not going to find a lot of value from your services. No matter which services you provide.
Nuggets of truth may be taken with a heaping dose of salt because hey, that piece of truth was bought with nothing, with thin air. It was bought with less than peanuts.
And damn good readers (tarot, psychic, or otherwise) are killing themselves bending over backwards providing freebies for people that will never EVER pay for a reading. And then they’re wondering why people won’t pay.
Because you’re giving away the farm, m’dear, and you know what they say about the cow giving away that milk…
I’ve paid my dues, and given away too many readings to even count, especially when I was just starting out: this is an excellent way to grow your tarot chops, and I’m not knocking it in the slightest.
…But it’s no way to run a business once you are out of the practice zone.
Blessings,
