I’ll admit it: Motel Makeover on Netflix quickly became my guilty pleasure watch at the end of the summer.
I binged the entire season in a matter of days (honestly, it’s a pretty quick series).
And while I do admit that some of the seemingly invented drama and crunch times was cheesy, I still watched the whole thing and gleaned some interesting home design tips in the process (not to mention some business nuggets).
Also, I fought with my husband asking the question why can’t I buy a Good Vibes Only neon sign? (answer: the jury’s still out, and I may just order one anyway for my weekly lives.)
After I’m done binge-watching something, I’ll usually take to IMDB or the Internet to look up interesting factoids or trivia about a series (doesn’t matter if it’s fiction or nonfiction in nature).
When I did this for Motel Makeover, I was startled by the amount of hate on the web for these two entrepreneurial ladies. Like seriously? What’d they ever do to you, besides going after their dreams?
I’m so sick of these types of revelations. And they seem to be happening more and more as I continue to make “unpopular” choices, like leaving my “safe” dayjob back in February.
But if I hadn’t done it, I would have never made room for the intense and fast writing of my first book from Flame Tree Publishing (a UK publisher). I signed the contract literally the final week I was at my dayjob! Don’t tell me there isn’t such a thing as synchronicity.
When I was writing How to Read Tarot (out November 22, available for preorder now, UK residents may get it even sooner!), I found myself nearly stunted and paralyzed by certain chapters I was asked to write (contract writing is different in many ways).
The History of Tarot in X amount of words?
The venerable Celtic Cross and talking about significators when I don’t personally use them in my tarot readings?
How to Read Tarot nearly didn’t get written at all, but I knew that if I didn’t do it, the publisher would move on and ask someone else. I wasn’t the first person they asked, and I certainly wouldn’t be the last if I declined.
I couldn’t have that on my life’s list of regrets, or on my conscience. It had to be me. Even if someone else were capable of writing this book, it wouldn’t be the same.
As I shared this with my friend and former coven sister, she said something that could have knocked me down with a feather: “people in general love to hate, but they REALLLY love to hate women.” Well, shit. She’s right.
Because there are people out there that are absolutely going to hate me, hate my book, or both.
But!
There are people that are absolutely going to love me, love my book, or both.
This book is for them. Not the haters. Because haters will always find some way to hate.
And lovers will always find some way to love.
