Productivity tools from a part-time tarot reader

Yes, I have a full-time job (as a senior copy editor), and a part-time job reading tarot on weeknights and weekends.

Sometimes, people ask me how do I do it all? Sometimes the answer is, I don’t! Sometimes the answer is I make time for what is important to me. And other times, I think about the myriad of tools I use to get it all accomplished: whether it’s blogging, witching, editing, writing, teaching, creating new classes, and providing tarot readings one-on-one through client appointments and parties.

Here’s a list of all of the tools I use to “get it all done”. Note: I sure as shit don’t have it all figured out… but who does? These are the things that make me feel like, okay, I may not have it all figured out, but I feel reasonably and relatively grounded in doing these things… and keeping these habits up.

Please also note that some of the following tools are for free, while others are pay-to-play. These are things I REALLY use and really pay for. Why? Because for me, they work. Your mileage may vary. I’ll note which ones are free, and which ones I pay for.

Productivity

MyHours – suggested by Melissa Cassera in one of her wonderful newsletters/blog posts that begs the question “Are you really that busy?”

“Are you *really* that busy? Or does it just *feel* like you’re really, really busy? Do you actually know where your time is going each day?”

And if you think you don’t have time? Well, prove it by tracking your time using this site for a few days, and see where your time REALLY goes… And when you find it out? Start to make time for the things that really matter to you.Continue Reading

Tarot Ritual: New Moon in Cancer for the breaking of bad habits

newmoonbath

“A New Moon teaches gradualness and deliberation and how one gives birth to oneself slowly. Patience with small details makes perfect a large work, like the universe.”—Rumi

Habits. We all want them, need them, especially good habits. Some people just seem to wake up and say, “I’m going to completely change my life today and turn it all around.” I don’t know any such people, but I have faith they are out there, somewhere. Like leprechauns or the Easter Bunny. They’re real because I believe them to be real.

There’s a few habits I was trying to correct all at once:

☛ punctuality

☛ poor sleep

☛ consistency in writing

☛ physical activity

☛ procrastination

I saved the best (or shall I say the worst?) for last on the list, because it’s a biggie. The Goliath to my David. And I realized it’s a biggie because it is a “pivot point” habit: reframe this one, and all the other bad habit dominoes such as tardiness or inconsistency get knocked down.

No matter how much I would like to be one of those mythical people I spoke of above, I need to reformulate my habits one habit at a time. Multitasking is a myth… so too have I found this to be the case when reframing multiple bad habits into good ones. No seriously, one thing at a time. I need to be reminded of this… a lot.

If you are looking to knock a habit and need an astrological boost to help you along, the New Moon is one of the best times to set the intention to begin again. Even better is if you sync up which sign the New Moon is in to further help your intentions along.

The Wisdom Is in You—5 Ways to Realize It

Sorry to break it to you, but when I’m doing a tarot reading I tell you what you already know. The majority of my clients know what I’m going to say to them in a reading. So why the heck do I still have clients, now that I’ve revealed that very simple fact? I’ll tell you why: most people don’t believe in or trust their own wisdom. They need their wisdom reflected back to them from a different person to fully “get it”.

There’s a series of rather cheesy tv movies on the Hallmark channel that I am addicted to called “The Good Witch”. It stars Catherine Bell as “Cassandra Nightingale”, the “good witch”. There is also “The Good Witch’s Garden”, “The Good Witch’s Gift”, and “The Good Witch’s Family” (though I haven’t seen that last one). Why am I telling you about this? Because in “The Good Witch’s Garden”, Cassie deals with the police chief’s son, Brandon, who is going through a teenage bout of falling in with the wrong crowd. Cassie chooses to deal with this by giving Brandon a “magic mirror”. Continue Reading
