How much is a freebie worth to you?

The Joker may be crazy, maniacal even, but he’s not wrong: If you’re good at something, never do it for free.

So why is the metaphysical industry absolutely plagued with deal-seekers, craving fix after fix, card after card, and all for FREE?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, and I think the answer comes down to VALUE.

Perceived value.

Miscommunicated value.

The cold truth is that if they didn’t put some skin in the game in the form of cash, that person is probably not going to find a lot of value from your services. No matter which services you provide.

Nuggets of truth may be taken with a heaping dose of salt because hey, that piece of truth was bought with nothing, with thin air. It was bought with less than peanuts.

And damn good readers (tarot, psychic, or otherwise) are killing themselves bending over backwards providing freebies for people that will never EVER pay for a reading. And then they’re wondering why people won’t pay.

Because you’re giving away the farm, m’dear, and you know what they say about the cow giving away that milk…

I’ve paid my dues, and given away too many readings to even count, especially when I was just starting out: this is an excellent way to grow your tarot chops, and I’m not knocking it in the slightest.

…But it’s no way to run a business once you are out of the practice zone.

Blessings,

Weekly Round-Up: It’s a New Year!

Holy moly moo, it has been the longest short work week ever, am I right? Here’s a round-up of links and things I’m digging on, with a new year’s slant to it!

Gala Darling just released a new yearly tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique) program called Magnetismo (that’s Italian for the word “magnetism”). When I saw the announcement, I zipped over to the site, and lo and behold, here I was extolling the virtues of this new program in a testimonial! No worries though: I’ve used Gala’s tapping routines before in her other program Illuminated that I did back in July, along with her original program on “power tapping” Tap That. I’ve severely cut down on my sugar intake, and have switched from drinking soda to seltzer or water. I’m also enrolled in her Radical Radiance book, which includes plenty of tapping routines in it… so while I won’t be picking up Magnetismo, the endorsement I provide about the power of learning tapping with Gala is absolutely 100% approved! (I’ve included it below.)

I’ve only been using the Orisha Tarot for the past 4 days, and man oh man, it has been kicking my butt in all the right ways. I’ll be reviewing it here at the end of the month, but if you just can’t wait to pick up a copy, you can see for yourself.

🔮🃏Card of the Day for 1/3/19: 6 of Swords [The Orisha Tarot]: In the most simple terms, this card is depicting a simple tool that can bring deep insight. Don’t be fooled by something that seems to be simple, and don’t poo-poo or belittle something for its simplicity… in fact, today is a day where you should pare things down to their very essence to find the answers you seek. But don’t ask if you don’t want to know.⠀ ⠀ 🙌🏻 💞 Like the card of the day? Top Ten Tarot by Hilary Blog Posts—2015 Wrap-Up Edition

The last time I did a top ten, it was at the end of 2012, reminiscing on the blogging year I was leaving behind.

Besides the realization of “gee, I should do that again!” I also learned that doing a top ten list is an excellent way to wrap up the year and go into the new year fresh, clean, and knowing exactly where you came from… so you know where you’re going! It was hard to choose my favorite blog posts, but I was able to do it based on site stats, general popularity, and which ones were my personal favorites to write. Without further ado…

10. Lessons from Boy Meets World and a Return to Regular Programming

Oh, reruns of Boy Meets World, can there EVER be enough of you? Me stumbling across the episode “Quiz Show” on MTV2 during a bout of procrastination yielded this blog post, all about investing time and energy in worthy pursuits (like my tarot business and my blogging) and less time used up by my addiction to Candy Crush.
